Family,
Speaking of Hawaii. Yesterday we played tennis for 4 hours. I put on a bunch of sunscreen and was on the court and the smell of the sunscreen and being in shorts and a tshirt caught me off guard when I closed my eyes and listened to the wind. I thought that I was in hawaii. Imagine my dissapointment when I opened my eyes to see a bunch of sweaty other missionaries surrounding me as we were attempting to play Tennis. Haha. So keep this as a note. the 3rd week I am home from my mission, I will be MIA on a beach in Hawaii. So it was written, and so it was said. bam.
This week has been great. I am no longer complaining. So what if times get hard. I’m just going to have to deal with it. So that’s what I’m trying to do.
We had a lot of rain last week and it really subsided since friday. Now it’s just hot. As I sit in the Library and email this to you, I am sweating in the air conditioned open room. Gotta love Japan. It will stop raining next week and then the intense heat comes. Mom- thank you for taking us out of this weather as children. I love you so much more because of that.-
Our apt is nice, we crank the cooler on when we get home and by the time I wake up in the mornings I swear I have frosbite. I wake up, put on my pajama pants & my sweatshirt as I study, then I go into the kitchen and I am immediatly sweating. Quite the contrast, I love whoever invented AC. What a blessing.
Elder Johsnon and I are getting along well. I retract my statement about not getting along with your comps that I said 2 weeks ago however. Not because we’re not getting along, but because I can see how you need to be so unselfish to get along. And letting yourself be ok with living with another Dude all the time can get a bit much. He’s a good guy and a good trainer. I have been happy with the opportunity to serve together thus far.
Next week wed. is transfers. I have no idea how P day works out because I don’t believe that monday is pday. So hopefully I will be able to email you, if not then I’ll kick it old school and hand write you a tegami.
I read the Kanji instead of the Hiragana during sacrament meeting. I can tell that it helps, I’m slow, but give me 6 months and I’ll be speaking pera-pera.
1st transfer is almost over! Crazy. I like Narita alot, but I wouldn’t mind transfering out and seeing more of the Tokyo mission. Getting more experience and working with other missionaries. Whatever is fine with me, I’ll get a phone call on saturday and find out if I am transfering or not.
That’s pretty much everything that is going on. I correspond with my mates from the MTC, so that Makes me happy. Letters are fun, I like getting mail and enjoy sending out letters too. Please also include photo’s with the packages if you have any. The building construction, family, friends, dry bones. You know, the important stuff. Haha. Thanks again for your support. I am doing my best! I’ll hopefully be able to email you next week, but if not then I will let you know my new address and area!
Stay faithful and lead by example,
Elder Purcell!

Purcell Choro. mo pera pera nihongo o haneseba ii na! boku ga zen zen nihongo o wasuretiru, zannen da yo! I totally know how you feel about the heat and ac transition. I served in an area with NO ac for 4 transfers. At night, we just had a fan that would rotate blowing between me and my companion. So dang HOT in Japan! Enjoy the food. Get a good bowl of ramen and some gyoza for me. I have been craving that for years now. Oh, and make your companion take you to a tabehodai–best restaurants ever. I miss Japan and all the experiences that you are now having. Live it up Elder. Work your butt off! Keep me updated.
